What Are Shelf Blocks?

Given their sometimes unknown status in the UK, occasionally a little explanation is required. Shelf blocks are a popular feature in American primitive decorating style – essentially a variation on shabby chic wooden signs. These are generally painted in traditional Colonial American colour schemes and carry traditional popular phrases.

Our shelf blocks are a little different. With our signature colourways, we’ve kept elements of the traditional look and updated them to blend seamlessly with an array of modern interior styles. Our shelf blocks are at home not only in primitive and country styled homes, but also shabby chic and even contemporary.

We handcraft our shelf blocks from solid natural wood, hand paint them and seal them with a protective wax top coat, carefully hand polished for a beautiful finish. An average set comprising two shelf blocks takes our artisans approximately eight to ten hours to produce, longer in the case of larger or more detailed sets.

As with all of our in-house products, our shelf blocks are created in the United Kingdom. We have worked hard and aquired years of experience perfecting our signature shelf blocks, and the results speak for themselves. A high quality, distinctive and established brand of shelf block – which we believe to be still quite unlike any other on the market.

Our shelf blocks are handmade, so slight variations will occur. Whilst we make every effort to utilise only high quality wood in the production of our shelf blocks there may be slight imperfections in the wood, as it is a natural product.
